About

Dan has worked as a computer teacher’s assistant from age 10 and found himself in the role of “computer repair kid” for his community. He went to an electrical and computer oriented high school then graduated with a degree in computer engineering before working at Queens University as a network technician. Before running his current company, he worked at many computer shops as a technician and teacher. He also runs an award-winning computer school called 'Avatar Computer Training' where he provides group classes on a variety of computer skills. Dan’s interest in “alternative technologies” allow him to guide and consult businesses and individuals on secure data management and adapting ethical software solutions. As an “eco-hacker” he upgrades the “non-upgradable” and modernizes disposable or obsolete computer hardware / software to function optimally; and in this spirit he is a supporter of the “right to repair” movement. Dan is a strong advocate for free and open-source hardware / software initiatives and community-owned technology, with a strong emphasis on privacy and big-data transparency.
